About us

History

We began as the Ely Volunteer Centre in 1991.
In 1996 we started the Helping Hands Gardening Team and in 1998 we started the East Cambs Social Car Scheme

In 2007, the Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) came to Ely, and the two organisations merged in 2008. The name Voluntary and Community Action for East Cambridgeshire (VCAEC) was agreed at our annual general meeting.

What We Do

  • We are the Volunteer Centre for East Cambridgeshire.
  • We can arrange for volunteering opportunities to be advertised nationally and locally.  If you would like to volunteer or are an organisation wishing to recruit volunteers please contact us or visit our volunteering web page.
  • Helping Hands Gardening Scheme.  We provide gardening services to those in most need.
  • Social Car Scheme . We provide private cars driven by volunteers to take individuals who are unable to use conventional transport to hospital and doctors.  We also help if you need to get your shopping or to visit friends and family.
  • We are the CVS (Community Voluntary Sector), support organisation for East Cambridgeshire.  We provide FREE advice and support for any voluntary groups operating within in East Cambs.  We are unique as we are also the Volunteer Centre for East Cambridgeshire.

    • Information and resources for you to utilise such as information on safeguarding issues;

We are lucky enough to be able to host a new project called What's Your Game.  It is a 4 year funded project from Sport England through Sanctuary Housing.  The aim of the project is to get children and their families more active within their communities in Ely and Littleport.
